Residual current devices JEL2 series (RCD)

Residual current devices JEL2 series (RCD) is a protective electromagnetic device designed to prevent people being under voltage due to insulation failure. It is mounted consecutively in the electrical power supply circuit after the breaker protecting certain consumers. It compares the magnitude of the current through the zero and phase conductors and breaks when the magnitude between them (current leakage) exceeds the limit value. The residual current devices are manufactured in accordance with standard EN 61 0008-1 and EN 61 008-2. They are offered in types with current leakage responsiveness 30, 100, 300 and 500mA, as their power contacts endure rated current from 10 to 80A. They endure 2000V impulse overloading voltage, and their endurance to short circuit current is 6000A. They are designed in types with two and four poles, correspondingly for mono-phase and three-phase systems of power supply. In order the residual current devices to work correctly the power supply system must be TN-S or TT type – three- or five-conductor. When the device breaks the power supply to the consumer stops automatically, and the electrical current supply restoring is done manually after corresponding measurements for leakage of the power supply conductors. They react to leakage at power supply grid voltage over 90V, as well as at short circuit of the protective conductors (zero and earthing) even at lack of power supply voltage.
